Modern Horizons Reprint Picks (that impact Retro-Modern)

Modern Horizons is going to be an interesting set for Magic and particularly Retro-Modern. It promises a large number of reprints that are new to the Modern format. That means cards predating 8th Edition, which would now be Retro-Modern legal, as well as cards from Commander, Battlebond, Conspiracy, and other recent specialty sets could all now see the light at the end of the Modern tunnel.

When predicting which cards they will actually reprint, there are a few considerations that I think WotC has to keep in mind:
  1. Card Supply - How many of these newly legal reprints are already in the wild? Modern is a huge format and available inventory of cards is going to be important to prohibit massive spikes in card prices. Modern Horizons will have a significant print run, but WotC has to be realistic about introducing high-demand cards with limited supply. I am generally looking at cards that have been printed at least twice before, preferably in a relatively recent set.
  2. Card Price - If WotC is going to even the playing field financially for players then expect this set to include some high dollar non-Modern staples. This will create excitement for the set and drive the types of sales expected of a product of this caliber. The reprints will drive the price down for individual cards like we have seen with Crucible of Worlds
  3. Implications on Modern Meta - It's clear that another purpose of this set is to shake up the Modern meta-game and make the format more interesting. I think they will focus on expanding tier one strategies by adding cards that bolster multiple use cases and less on bringing cards that obviously weaken the current meta-game. Expanding the winningest deck types evens the meta overall.
  4. Card Errata - Less of a consideration, but if they are going to reprint an older card, will the old printings read well in tournament play for newer players? Thinking about the existing card supply and card text may be something to consider. Missing card types, for example, could pose an unnecessary issue for players who aren't familiar with pre-8th Edition Legendary creatures and lands. Could we see errata changes on MH1 reprints?
  5. Most recent reprint - The newer the reprint the more liquid the supply for newer players. This may limit the number of reprints from pre-8th Edition so WotC may focus more on the recent "innovation" and commander products instead. It may be that the most likely pre-8th reprints have been seen recently in these innovation sets.
Here are my predictions:
