The Retro-Modern Card Pool Primer

Unlike other "classic" formats, Retro-Modern's card pool is consistently growing with each Modern legal set. In some cases, the card pool has expanded due to the printing of a promo card on the classic frames, a batch of Timeshifted cards or simply with reprints in a modern set. Because of the nature of the modern format the Classic cards that are available are well balanced and conform to modern standards of play. However, they are not overpowered and the meta does not lean horribly in one direction. Coincidentally the colors are all fairly equally distributed with red having slightly more cards than the other colors.  The information below is accurate as of the printing of Guilds of Ravnica. Introduction

Retro-Modern Retro-Modern Magic is a balanced, exciting and evolving casual constructed format of Magic the Gathering. As the power level of Magic cards has crept upwards and new types of cards have emerged the "feel" and intention of the game has changed. Retro-Modern recaptures the balance and nostalgia of the game with a fun and creative format. The format permits any modern legal card originally printed prior to 8th Edition or that has been printed on the classic, old style, card frames. Modern rules and current errata apply, that's it. Any printing of a modern legal card is allowed, but it is encouraged to use classic printings. The card pool expands with every new Modern legal set and there is a possibility for new promos, a reprint heavy or another Timeshifted set to further expand the format.
